The code on the back is just a generic UPC code and isn't a steam one. Unless the person who bought it still has the receipt there's nothing that can be done.
They usually take the card too because they don't want you giving it to people. The card is from Gamestop and they were SUPPOSED to tell the purchaser that the code is on the receipt.
